The Client, a prominent North American transportation and logistics provider, operates multiple legacy data centers across key metropolitan areas such as Montreal, Toronto, Brampton, Edmonton, and Chicago. These facilities rely on aging hardware and traditional infrastructure, which significantly limits their ability to scale operations, automate processes, and integrate with modern cloud platforms. As business demands evolve and the need for digital transformation accelerates, the existing data centers present substantial challenges in maintaining operational efficiency and delivering high-performance services. To address these limitations and position the organization for future growth, a comprehensive data center network upgrade is essential enabling robust scalability, advanced automation, and seamless cloud integration to support ongoing and future business initiatives.
Solution Overview:
To address the client’s modernization goals, a NextGen data center network architecture was selected, leveraging Arista Networks EOS-based switching solutions. Recognizing the client IT team’s limited experience with the new design and Arista equipment, Arista Networks engaged Wired360 to lead the migration and ensure a seamless transition.
Following a comprehensive assessment of the existing environment, Wired360 developed a structured, three-phase migration strategy:
Phase 1: Replace end-of-life hardware and transition services to a state-of-the-art Arista Data Center Fabric. This phase introduced a Layer 3 leaf-spine (L3LS) architecture with EVPN/VXLAN, deployed across six strategic locations, laying the foundation for scalable and resilient network operations.
Phase 2: Employ automation tools such as Ansible and Python to streamline and automate infrastructure configurations. This approach significantly reduced deployment time, enhanced operational efficiency, and improved overall network performance.
Phase 3: Expand the network’s capabilities to enable multi-cloud orchestration and seamless integration with leading cloud platforms, including Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure.
This phased approach ensured a robust, future-ready data center network, equipped to support evolving business needs and digital transformation initiatives.
